Sea float, Solid Anchor and the Song Cau Lon River

A PHOTO OF SEAFLOAT IN 1970

HISTORY OF SOLID ANCHOR

The Solid Anchor site was an ATSB on the banks [On the left in the above photo] of the Song Cau Lon at the site of Old Nam Can.
MATSB Sea Float was anchored in the Song Cau Lon river next to Solid Anchor.
ATSB Solid Anchor is near near the U Minh forest in Cam Mau province on the southern tip of the Mekong Delta in Vietnam.

OLD NAM CAM
Old Nam Can may have been overrun and destroyed during the Tet Offensive of 1968???.
There was a mission to evacuate Old Nam Cam in Oct 1967.
Any body know the history??

THE BEGINNING
Solid Anchor was constructed by the SeaBees in 1970 on sand that was transported by tug and barge for Qui Nhon.
The site was known as CAMP HURT.
The area clear of trees was defoliated by Agent Orange.
There is also numerous bomb craters from earlier B-52 strikes and shell craters.

About Solid Anchor in the beginning.

THE MOVE FROM SEAFLOAT
Seafloat crews moved to Solid Anchor in a single 4 to 12 hour period September 1970.
Was the New Solid Anchor frequently mortared or attacked ???
Solid Anchor never recieved a serious ground attack. It was to well defended.
On 20 November 1970 a swimmer zapper attack happened a 11:15 pm. The target was the RVN boats moored along the shore.

OPERATIONS AND BOATS
Admiral Zumwalts Son was said to have served here.

THE LAST AMERICAN FACILITY

Vietnam Unit Memorial Monument

The Unit Memorial Monument is on the Coronado Naval Amphibious Base.
The Unit Memorial Monument will memorialize all the Naval personnel
who died or are missing in Vietnam. The names on the monument are organized by
unit complete with Unit insignia. Includes support and auxillary units.

Funds are needed to complete the Unit Memorial Monument and
restore the Command Control Boat, Swift Boat and PBR displayed there.
Your donations to this effort would be appreciated.

The Last known Command Control Boat (CCB-18) has arrived in San Diego
and is displayed at the Vietnam Navy Unit Memorial Monument Site
on the Coronado Naval Amphibious Base.
This was called by some a monitor boat.
