!!! An Advance Base !!!
ATSB Tinh Bien |
|
This is the advance tactical Support base near Tinh Bien on the Vinh Te border canal. It shows the PBRs, the bunk tents and the watch tower. It is very near the Cambodian Border in Vietnam. I was assigned to work at this advanced base for a few weeks. This site has a collection of pictures I took.
The Canal starts north of the town of Chou Doc in Chou Doc Province and very near the Cambodian border. Detachments that stopped by or stayed at the YRBM 20 and YRBM 16? used this base and patrolled the French-built border canal. The canal ran between the Bassac River and the Giang Thanh River connecting to the western ocean at Ha Tien along the Cambodian Border and within Vietnam. Cambodia was a protected sanctuary for the VC when I worked at this advance base. A North Vietnamese Unit crossed the border and the canal nearby while I was there and was the target of a B-52 raid in the nearby Seven Mountains.
