We had some pretty good defenses at solid anchor. we had, for one, a navy seal team. That helps alot.

I was there, gosh, I think about 6 months maybe a bit less and during that time I think we took incoming mortors and a launch bomb once MAYBE 4 times or so.
Interesting because within five miles the intel reports said there were something like 500 NVA encamped here and there.

don't know if they were bs'ing us or not about that but the seals used to bring back groups of sampans tied together and once they over ran a rear services area for the nva near us. yeah. pretty safe, kinda sorta. regards,

I WAS THE PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE OFFICER AT OPERATION SEAFLOAT/ SOLID ANCHOR FROM MAY-DECEMBER 1970. WE MOVED ASHORE FROM SEAFLOAT TO SOLID ANCHOR IN A 12 HOUR PERIOD ONE DAY TO INSURE THAT WE WERE NOT BLOWN -UP BY SWIMMER SAPPERS.

WE HAD TO MOVE OFF SEAFLOAT BECAUSE WE HAD OPENED CRACKS IN THE BOTTOMS OF THE AMMI PONTOONS BY THROWING CONCUSSION GRENADES OVER THE SIDE EVERY MINUTE OR SO TO KEEP THE SWIMMER SAPPERS AWAY.

SOLID ANCHOR BASE WAS BUILT ON SAND TRANSPORTED BY TUG AND BARGE FROM QUI NHON, AND THERE WAS A LOT OF IT.

In sep 70 we moved ashore to SOLID ANCHOR.
Not to long after we were hit by sappers which destroyed some of our boats and small craft.

SOLID ANCHOR was like the HILTON after living in SEAFLOAT. Water whenever you wanted it!
