BROWNWATER NAVY PAGES
of
KENT HAWLEY VIETNAM |
|
The Brownwater Navy in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam, includes the PBR units, the Riverines, the YRBMs, the advance bases, the helicopter and Seawolf units, the Naval Support Activity and all other Naval units operating in Vietnam. Even the Army joined the Riverines and there were rumors of Navy Infantry.
This Web Page is the start of a Web Book of Brownwater Navy photos, which were taken by the author who traveled TDY to various locations and keep his pentax camera ready.
Other veterans from all services have contributed even more photos and history.
This goal of this Web Book started in 1998 is to define Brownwater Navy in Vietnam bases, vessels, locations, boats and events commonly known to veterans who were there.
All photos from other veterans posted in this web book are credited
to the contributer and/or photographer with an email link.
Many Veterans have donated photos to this Web Book.
Some send scans of photos or slides as attacment to email.
Others send me there photos and slides by mail to scan and return.
I return their photos or slides with a CD of their high resolution images including my web book
I scan slides and negatives with dedicated Nikon equipment and perform digital photo restoration.
Scanning Notes:
The best format for photo editing, printing and archiving your photos is TIFF
Use the highest resolution that makes a sharp image. (photos 200-300 dpi, slides 1200-2800 dpi)
For email and web posting, scan or convert to JPEG Format with minimum compression.
I prefer an email JPEG image size of 600 x 900 pixals (1.5 megbytes compressed to between 50 to 400 kilobytes)

I, The Lone Webmaster and Author was assigned to the YRBM 20 in Chou Doc on the Bassac river. As a Seaman I was sent TDY to ATSB Binh Gia on the Vinh Te Canal and ATSB Rach Soi. I visited may other locations in my travels. I spent a week in the hospital at Binh Thuy and at the Anapolis building in Siagon. During my last 5 months of my tour (Oct69-Oct70) as a CYN-3 (I had to get out of all the crappy tasks non-lifer seaman do) my old crewmen ferried me up the bassic daily in a outboard motor boat as a message courier to MACV and Air America in Chou Doc.
After Vietnam I graduated (thanks to the GI Bill) as a Mining engineer (U of Utah).
Since then I have worked as a mining engineer, mechanical engineer, safety engineer,
and environmental engineer. I now work for the Air Force managing cleanup projects
at the former Castle AFB. Due to Agent Orange I am 70% Disabled. My free time is
reduced and updates to this Web Page have been delayed by my disability.
PLEASE EMAIL ME
IF YOU HAVE BEEN THERE !!! P.S.
