The YRBM 20, known as the Delta Hilton, was a floating Brown Water Navy base in Vietnam during 1969 and 1970. YRBM stands for "Yard Repair Berthing and Messing".

It is not self propelled. A barge tied to the stern had diesel outboards to move the YRBM when needed or when tugboats were not available. It also functioned not unlike a pocket helicopter carrier supplying fuel and ammo continuously for days in support of nearby air operations.

It was located on a wide spot in the Bassac River, the west tributary of the Mekong River south of the town of Chou Doc in Chou Doc Province and very near the Cambodian border.

Detachments assigned to the YRBM 20 patrolled the French-built border canals nearby. The Vinh Te canal ran between the Bassac River and Ha Tien at the western ocean and passed through Tinh Bien . Another Canal ran to the Mekong River.

The YRBM 20 had Freezers and Refrigerators and at times was the best dining spot in the Province

The YRBMS were vulnerable to mines, A swimmer could float down the river in the 1 to 6 knot current and place the mine on the hull. In the day time the bow watch would shoot under any debris or water plants floating near with a carbine. At night an outboard motor boat would circle and the bow watch would randomly toss concussion grenades into the river. When the current stopped in the dry summer season there was also a stern watch on the with a carbine and grenades. This was on a stern fuel and pusher barge with it's diesel outboard motors.

It was packed every uneventful evening.
Beer call only lasted an hour but card games lasted late into the evening
I don't remember who was standing next to the cartoon character.

Vietnam Unit Memorial Monument

Vietnam Unit Memorial Monument

The Unit Memorial Monument is on the Coronado Naval Amphibious Base.
The Unit Memorial Monument will memorialize all the Naval personnel
who died or are missing in Vietnam. The names on the monument are organized by
unit complete with Unit insignia. Includes support and auxillary units.

Funds are needed to complete the Unit Memorial Monument and
restore the Command Control Boat, Swift Boat and PBR displayed there.
Your donations to this effort would be appreciated.

The Last known Command Control Boat (CCB-18) has arrived in San Diego
and is displayed at the Vietnam Navy Unit Memorial Monument Site
on the Coronado Naval Amphibious Base.
This was called by some a monitor boat.
