Under the 35 River Patrol Boat pictures, PHOTO 2 caption: "Unknown modified River Patrol Boat" and was provided by Rick Erwin.
In reality, the boat is a landing craft, personnel, large (LCPL) Mk IV. The boat shown belongs to Mobile Support Team TWO. The boat nesting by the bow is a light SEAL support craft (LSSC). These boats were used to insert and extract SEAL teams.
The LSSC dates the photo around late 1968 or 1969. This would mean the boat was probably from MST-2 Detachment ALPHA or BRAVO at Binh Thuy or Nha Be. MST-2 used four LCPL Mk IV boats to support SEALs. Three of the four boats carried either single or twin .50 mgs on the bow, while the last boat carried a 7.62mm Mini-gun on the bow and was used at Nam Can (SEA FLOAT). These boats were replaced by the medium SEAL support craft or MSSC.
