Comments: It sure nice to see a sight dedicated to the Brown Water Navy and the support ships and bardges. I was on the YRBM-17 in Dong Tam from Mar 67 to Jan 68. I worked as a shipfitter and we maintained atc's and monitors. If there are any former crew members of the 17 go ahead and e-mail me, I'd like to hear from you, particularly the one's that were there when I was. Don Gale are you out there! I already e-mailed and talked to a couple of the crew members of the YRBM-16 since I was on It for a short time in Japan. Great site!

Great Job on the Site guys . I am proud . I had a great time my 1 yr spent on the YRBM-17. Many great guys .. I was a nobody, never got past E-3 my time in the Navy. Still the many many places and adventures were wonderful ... We used to sneak in the watch the USO girls take a shower after a show , had to stand on the LT.'s bunk and peak through to do it . He would have killed us .. ------------ I loved the massage parlor and other trades offered on Base at Dong Tam . --------- I never fired a shot , but worked my butt off ........ The real men were the ones who went out on all those Patrols .. My hat is off too you .. God Bless all of You ........

Just thought I would try to reach out to a few Navy guys from back there. I really had it made my first tour, clubs and messes, working on slot machines in Danang, traveling all over I corps. I tore up my knee one night durring a mortor attack on the base. I ended up in 106th army hospital, yokohama japan. I felt bad about bieng there with all the others on the limb ward. anyway, I voluntered for a second tour when I recovered. yrbm-17 dong-tam was my next duty station. worked on river boats, water pumps, ramp gaskets for mike boats. Was the original eager-beaver firefighter on the navy base. Helped set up thousands of cambidoian refugees in dong tam at the old 9th div army base. If David Casman, Kieth tyler, Nick Nagel, frenchy, bear,or anybody else want to talk. E-mail me. I have some old photos of yrbm-17 crew

I was a drugged up fuck up back then. Worked as a boatswain's mate. I was the one who painted a psychedleic mural on the paint locker topside. Interesting times, the TET Offensive, the time the YRBM-17 got hit by rocket fire, etc. I am noww drug free and working as a teacher for troubled high school students. I am also the author of a book of haiku about the Vietnam War. Anyone remember, Boats, The Great Randini, Slowman, or TC?

I was with ARG Bravo surgical team in 69-70. I June 70 I was assigned to the base sickbay at Cat Lo. (HM2) In October 70 I went aboard the YRBM 17 at Dong Tam (HM1). After the boat was turned over to the VNs in Dec 70, we were towed upriver to Chau Doc (I think - it could have been Tan Chau) where we were anchored in the river about 200 yards from the YRBM-20. I am interested in hearing from anyone who was at Cat Lo June-Oct 70, on the YRBM-17 Oct 70-Apr 71 (or later to see what ultimately happened to the 17), or on the YRBM-20 who remembers when the 17 was downriver from the 20, especially anyone involved with the "boat race" and related activities in about March 70.. The names I remember from the 17 were Himes, Godwin, Crawford, Nix & Benoit (all but Benoit were on the advisory team).

I arrived in siagon at the air base at night and the air base was under attack and i was thrown from a world of peace into a world of war instantly,it was quite a surprise.I was stationed on the YRBM17 in Dong Tam.My job duty there was a electrican.I repaired and maintained the gun boats.I was in the mess hall when it was hit and then as i was making my way back to the YRBM17 i stopped to help someone who had been hit real bad and then i got hit in the head.I woke up laying in the water with my head on the bank. Then as i tried to get aboard our boat it was hit by a rocket and i was thrown through the air the distant of two barges and was hit in the chest. That was quite a experience.Since 1968 i have never forgotten that day.I met a guy there in 1968 that years later we are best friends. His name is Gerge Soileau. He was aboard the Monitor boat 112.My heart goes out to every one that came back and the ones that did not.

This is a great sit and I'm glad and proud to see it here, Thank You! I remember the nights that we took incoming every night. You could just about set your watch to the sounds. When I went to Vietnam I was to be an an Electrican Mate but they needed to have welders so I became a Ship Fitter. I didn't care, I just wanted to stay busy that way my mind wasn't on the fear we all had over there. I was only an E-3 when I left Dong Tam. I never had the desirer to stay in the Navy but my brother made up for both of us. He was a lifer with 40 years in the Navy retired as a Commander and I was proud of him. I was there during the change of comand in 1969 in Dong Tam it was just before Thanks Giving, this might make someone remember me. I have blocked this part of my life out for the past 32 years. I just thank God every day that we know there're military men out there to keep us safe and our children safe. Thank you!

came from the USS Isle Royal AD-29 out of Long Beach Ca. I found myself in the shipfittershop amongst a great group of guys. Some were even Reservests. Wake up call, aboard a week and the RMK house barge got hit. I was elected to go over and help. WHAT A MESS. But for the most part that year was a great experiance which has helped me through the years on the job and interacting with people. I'd sure enjoy hearing from some of you old Delta Devils.
