Hi All, No matter who I talk to regarding being on station ship in the Cau Mau Peninsula, I cannot help but thank my ship mates, SEALS, and Sea Wolf Detachments for making our tours on station a safer one. As we rode "poppa" boats up the rivers, laden with mail, beer, food & ammo we always were welcomed aboard SeaFloat......Kudos you guys, I am proud to be able to support your efforts in the peninsula. Bless those who died and those who came back home. Our sacrifice was for our brothers in arms, and our loyality was to the USA.......HoooooooRAHhhhhhaaaaaaa !!!!! to you all Love the memories of all of you Frank

I served as lead radioman for the Naval Advisory Group at the ATSB Song Ong Doc for RivDiv 572 and its associated units. I was there from the begining in Sept'69 to Dec'69 and then again from March'70 to June'70. I made a few patrols with the boat crews and was in one daytime firefight on May 1st when our lead boat was beached from an "inattentive" helmsman. (Long story, dont ask). Anyway, I was there the night the coast guard cutter shelled the base and killed one of our boat captains and wounded most of the others. Does anyone know what ever became of Commander Roper and his yoeman we called "Cage" a young man from Lousiana? There was a radarman there that manned the radios in HQ at night while I sent out the daily TTY traffic. Living the good life in South Cal now. Surfing and designing cellular telephone chips. Mulitple marriages, couple of kids step-kids, spread all over the country not to mention planet. I have a son that broke with family tradtion and is a Marine Corporal. Found my old high school sweetheart a couple of years ago and now have grandkids to complete my story. I recently made a trip to The Wall in DC and left a note to Chief Mulrooney who was the first American casualty of Operation Breezy Cove. Best of everything to all old shipmates - most of whom I am sure have forgotten who I am. Welcome Home all. Welcome Home Brothers, Regards, Dennis J. Walker RM3

I just stumbled onto your web page. From Mar to Sep, 1967, I was the Naval Intelligence Liaison Officer in Chau Doc, billeted with Team B42, USSF. Other than the Special Forces, a Navy medical team, the odd Air force FAC,& me,there weren't too many Americans in the area. Some time during that period, some type of YB was moved to Tan Chau & tied up to the bank on the south end of the town. It was not there until late in my tour, so it wasn't until the last time I was in Tan Chau that I went aboard. The vessel was new & clean, & the crew most hospitable. I especially enjoyed the air conditioning, something we didn't have in Chau Doc. I'm sorry I don't remember which YB this was.

Haven't signed in for quite a while. Site just keeps getting better and better. Was able to gain contact with some old shipmates, thanks to you and your great webpage. Another Memorial Day is upon us and another reminder of the brothers we lost. Let's all take a minute to honor their memory.

With VAL-4 ordnance. I remember those wild cycle-o rides to Cantho.
I'll always remember to this day, never seeing so much asphalt being continually layed on the main highway between the Bassac and the base. And so much of it ended up in the local's hootches. Also, I remember the flattened-out beer cans for siding and shingles. And those gosh-awful *[ at ]#! ditches everywhere. Boy, the memories evoked by a few pictures, great website Kent!

Great site & a 4.0 tribute to all who served...
Served aboard the USS Tortuga LSD-26. The old girl
made quite a contribution in both Korea & Vietnam.
I would like invite everyone to visit the Tortuga site.

Thanks again and keep up the good work for all to enjoy.

Well, Kent, I got into your web site. Your picture on the boat looks exactly as I remember you...but then, it was taken when I knew you! You've done a good job with your site. Take care--and best regards, Cynthia
