Record 1900 Correction: I served together with Sam Crawford on board the USS Satyr Arl-23 not the Regulus...sorry Sam...Tom

Record 1899 It has been some time since I last wrote. Anybody out there that served with me please drop a line. Sam Crawford and I served together on board the Regulus. I have acquired from him his "Brownwater" series of books he has written. Anyone who served in the rivers and went through Saigon via the Annapolis hotel will really enjoy these books. All you have to do is change the names and some of the events and it could be a story about every one of us. Thanks for the memories Sam. Any of you guys ever go to Vung Tau to blow off some steam? Remember the barber shop where I don't think they ever cut hair, ever!?? There was a girl there that looked as though her face had been on fire and put out with an ice pick, but oh my the talents she had!! Just thought I would bring a smile to many of your faces. Hope you all are well and say those words that no one understands but us.....
"Welcome Home".. Tom

Record 1898 Arrived Danang 29 June, 1966, served there until NSAD Cua Viet set up in March of 1967, went up there with COMM van and stayed there until TET 68, where we had to evacuate base during NVA march south to occupy Cidatel at Hue. After marines kicked their asses back across DMZ went back up to help rebuild Cua Viet. Served with PBR's there until finally leaving Viet Nam on 23 March, 1969. I was standing on top of the Comm Bunker when YFU-62 blew sky high from that command detonated mine pulled out to mid channel after the sweeps passed by at first light. Welcome home to ALL of you. Remember when the New Jersey would fire over our heads at targets inland, sounded like a freight train driving over Cua Viet. And what about those 152's from the other side of the D.M.Z., wreaked havoc on us didn't they ? Hope you guys are living a somewhat "normal" life...kind of hard to do after experiencing Cua Viet. Record 1896 I was a Ground Support Equipment Electrician and was there when the ammo dump was set off. We were in the bunkers for three days before they moved us up to Can Tho and then to Siagon and back home. What a fire works. We saw sharpnel go through the roof of barracks down through two bunks and through the floor, through another bunk and end up in the bottom bunk. I'm now looking on the net after all these years and would like to read something about this incident.

Record 1895 INFORMATION ABOUT DMZ VIETNAM
1. The Rockpile is the name of a 230m high rocky hill that was used as a US marine listening post fueling the Vietnam War. Situated within view of Route 9, this base was only accessible by helicopter making it a perfect location to watch out for NVA movement in the surrounding area as well as to fire long range artillery. One of the ongoing mysteries of Vietnam, however, is to why everyone is forced out of the bus to look at what is now just a rock mountain.
2. This Dakrong bridge crosses the Dakrong River and was completed in 1976 with Cuban assistance. You are not permitted to take photos of the ‘bribes officers’ here who often extort money from incoming truck drivers form Laos, but you can from the other side of teh girdge!! The road on the far side of the bridge, in part, used to be a section of the Ho Chi Minh Trail.

Record 1855 Welcome home to all. I was stationed at Vinh Long from '68 to '69 doing fiberglass repair on the River Boats. Still remember doing the fiberglass sanding and then trying to get to sleep with all the itching from the glass. When I first arrived we stayed a the villa about 3 miles from the pier and took trucks, jeeps, etc to get to the pier. Great time there except when Charlie decided to mortar the Army base next door. Finally they decided to put us out in the middle of the river so we would be safe. Ya right. Looking to make contact with anyone that was there at that time. I am terrilbe with names but do remember a lot of other things. If there is another reuion coming up would like info on it. Again welcome home to all.

Up until recent years, he didnt talk much about Vietnam, but now he seems to talk about it alot. I think it would be nice if he could contact other sailors he served with.
