Record 1698 My husband, Christopher Lee Cook, born Oct 13, 1945, is missing. He suffers from PTSD and his last episode was severe enough for him to run out of his own home with nothing to his name. We were married in July, 2002 and had been together for 3 years, both of us very happy. We didn't fight, get drunk, do drugs. We lived a simple, quiet existence. The last 6 months before he left it had actually gotten reclusive. This is very personal information and I am only sharing this in order to find this man. He may be on the streets or in a shelter. He may have a job and be your new neighbor...he may be dead. I will never rest until I know FROM HIM that he is OK and wants to be alone, because in the state he was in when he left I will always worry. That is all I want from Chris, nothing more if that is all he has to give. How good of a wife would I be to see my wonderful husband running down the street with nothing and not go looking for him? If your mother had alzheimer's and ran away would you just get another one? I love Chris in a mature and sincere way as my husband and as hard as it is for some people to get, NO, PEOPLE AREN'T JUST INTERCHANGABLE! On that note, however, if he wants to be away from me, I'm not ever going to be the type to hold anyone back or down. If anyone knows him or any suggestions on how to find him, email me at coriginals[ at ]hotmail.com, please. Thank you, Cindie Cook

Record 1681 Looking for acquaintance; Seal Team 1, Mike S.(?), E-4 or E-5 who might have been KIA on Bold Dragon VIII, TF-115, Phu Quoc Island, 2 week assignment in support of this operation.
I was on lst-1166 and USS Weiss (APD-125) assited w/support besides 2 cobra gun ships and we provided naval gunfire for Navy Seal Teams until 7 November 1968. Also the Coastal Surveillance Force conducted operation Bold Dragon VIII would like to know if, in fact Mike S., was KIA or what happened to him and if he has been deceased, where is the interened [ at ]? Mike S. was from either Roseburg or Grants Pass, Oregon. He was discharging from Navy after op,s and I was going home on leave enroute to USS ~~~~~~~ (LPD-8) as a
Machinery Repairman (E-4), MR3. Mike and I were planning a steelheading trip in southern Oregon after things "were said & done." I spoke to Mike [ at ] mid rats before going on #1 engine room watch and they were redeading for "search & destroy". His squad leader said that night either "who's turn is it to dive" or "who's turn is it to die", I can't remember exactly what was said. I talked to Mike because things were bothering me and maybe him. The next morning after the ops another seal said "he didn't make It" after I said where is Mike [ at ]. We were supposed to exchange phone #s and addresses that following morning. Maybe I am obcessed or preoccupied with this happening but would like to make a closure on this deatail, because I felt partly responsible for his demise, that I may have distracted him before his duties? Washtenaw departed Vung Tau before this ops. and officers said that we were headed for R&R to Austrailia. The 2 cobra's also supplied gun fire and one sunk itself because of poor visibility and the low profile of 1166 for their return landing on the main deck. Is there any Seals out there, from Team 1, who can remember this ops? They (Seals) shoved off with 2 silent, high speed attack boats and thats all I can remember about helping to engage the Seals.
Thanks for letting submit the query.

Record 1667 I arrived at Danang Air Base at 7:30 P.M., on 29 June, 1966. I served at the Naval Communications Center at the White Elephant until June of 1967, I then extended for 6 months and received 30 days free leave. I returned in July of 1967 and went up to N.S.A.D. Cua-Viet, where I served in the Communications bunker. C.T.F. Clearwater (T.F. 115) needed communicators to ride P.B.R.'s so I was assigned to P.B.R.'s in October of 1967 and rode the Cua-Viet river every other night until I extended another 6 months and went home for Christmas 1967. I returned to Cua-Viet and P.B.R.'s in January 1968, and stayed with them (including TET-68), until I went home again in August of 1968 because I extended again for 6 months. I went home and returned in September 1968, and stayed with TF-115 (P.B.R.'S) until I left Viet-Nam at 12:30 P.M., on the 23rd of March, 1969. I had just returned from night patrol on the morning of the 21st and climbed on the roof of the Comm. bunker when YFU-62 was blown up by a remote detonated 700 lb mine as it pulled away from the concrete ramp and made its swing up river to go to Dona-Ha ramp with 105 mm. rounds.

Record 1664 I went to Nam aboard the USS PRINCETON LPH-5 as part of the Marine Aviation Detachment,(Sailors in Green), In 1961 and 62 we took Detachments of Air America helicopters over to Nam. We were operating out of Subic Bay, PI and were moored alongside Cubi Point NAS. We on loaded H-19's, UH 34's Kaman huskies, (Widow Makers), and even a few Cessna L-19A "Birddogs". We had Pilots from the various services aboard and on the way over to where we did not know, the hanger crews painted out all the US insignia on the aircraft. Then early one morning we went to General Quarters and Flight Quarters and prepared to launch the aircraft. We were shocked when the pilots and crew came out to man their planes in "civvies". The 1mc announced that we were off the coast of South Vietnam and we sent our birds away while the USS Coral Sea flew air cover for us. Then we skedattled back to Subic. With instructions not to mention the incident for twenty years...times up!
The USS Princeton Veterans Association is looking for shipmates who served aboard her in any capacity, whether as crew, in a squadron or just TAD. Go to the Princeton Website and join up! We are over 350 strong and growing. Our next reunion will be in Norfolk, VA in 2004.

Record 1649 According to declassified records from US Army Environmental
Support Group, Wash. D.C. and my personal memory would like to find out what happened to Team 1, Navy Seal by the name of Mike S? who didn't make it back on Operation Bold Dragon VIII, TF-115, Phu Quoc Island from 26 Oct. 1968 to 7 Nov. 1968 back to my ship-1166. The nite before Seals departed he
and I talked about going steeleheading in Grants Pass or Medford, oregon where he was from; Mike(?)told me we would exchange phone #'s & addresses the next morning. The next morning one of his team members said "he didn't make it." I would like to know if Mike S. (?) was KIA, MIA or what and if so where is he interned at? I've been thinking about his demise for years and would like to visit his grave site if in the USA. He was E4 or E5, discharging from Navy and I was going to be reassigned to USS Dubuque (LPD-8). The night in ? was shortly after mid-rats, w/Seal leader saying
"Who was going to die tonite" or "Who was going to dive tonite." I got tired of hearing "it" and he & I asked each other where we were from and talked about fishing. MYSTERY.

Record 1628 Great to see this website. It seems most veterans of the Nam war never heard of Vinh Long. Nestled near the big river and bordered by a canal there was plenty of water for you Brown Water guys. I was with MACV US Army. Arrived just before Xmas of 69 and left just before Xmas of 70. I remember the Invasion of Cambodia, Mortar attacks, downtown Vinh Long restaurants, open markets etc. How many remember the Cement Block used to zero in our M14s yes M14s didnt get an M16 till halfway through my tour. I drove several suppply runs to Can-Tho, SocTrang and Sadec. That brown river ran fast use to watch big trees and other debris race down the river. How about the monsoons being 4' above sea level everything stayed knee deep in water for weeks. Oh and you guys kept a watch on VC island for us good job. Remember the old Cocola (French) factory and the orphanage and MACV compound left side on the way into town. So many memories.....to share drop me a line.

Then we suited up in Tiger Greens and tried to take on "Charlie" on his home truf. I can remember Ha Tien, Rach Gia, the Cau Lon, the Bassac, Old Nam Can, Song Ong Doc and the wonderful high banks of the Vinh Te where it cuts northwest along the border. Running those rivers in Swift Boats sure was interesting(?). Not much protection in the Swifts against "in coming". Was glad to leave there and let the guys in the River Divisions with the PBRs and the other Riverine Warfare boats take over those nasty day and night patrols. Hated night patrols and ambushes. At times couldn't see anything except the boat's wake. "Charlie" got real good at sighting in on that. Plus our boats weren't as quiet as some of gthe RivDiv boats. You got a great site here. Record 1607 I was just wondering if any of the old crew was still as pretty as me. Also I would like to find Jim Woelfel. He was like the brother I never had. I have both great memories and bad of that period of my life. Unfortunately I still have a hard time facing the bad. But,I would do it again.

Record 1604 I was a Coastie on the WHEC Bering Strait which was being turned over to the Viet Namese Navy in 70-71. I was a member of the recovery detail sent ashore the morning after the attack on Son Ong Doc in October 1970. We assisted in the recovery of the body of the only American killed that night (Navy?). The word was he had been at the base onlt two days. I will always remember finding his wallet intact in spite of the fire and seeing the picture of his wife and daughter. I hope to visit The Wall next year and would like to pay my respects, but I do not have his name. Can anyone help? We spent the day there and traded the steak dinner sent in by one of our Boston Whalers with the guys from the base for their K rations. In the middle of the recovery effort we came under what we thought was hostile fire, but it turned out to be the Vietnamese Army and Navy trading shots. One of the guys from the base said it as the Vietnamese Army-Navy Game. Just when we thought we were going to be stuck overnight, a Navy landing craft picked us up and took us to a LST off shore. The most dangerous part of the entire day was plowing through 10 foot seas while the Navy helmsman tried to find the LST in the dark. Of course, we Coasties felt we could have done a better job of navigation. It would be nice to see the Bering Strait added to the list of off-shore support vessels on this web site. We supported the base with supplies, gun support and MEDCAPS for several months. May God bless all who served so well and so proudly.

Record 1601 I went over with the original group in 65, we were barricked in Ten Sha in Da Nang until the first boats arrived (8-Boats). We hauled cargo from the ships in the harbor to the original piers until the original sand ramp in the end of town was compleated. some of the guys that I served with were BM's 'Granny' Flag, Horace D. Breland, Lang, Nelson, Timmons etc. At almost the end of my first tour I almost got busted for stealing from a load and was given the option of going on Coastal Ops. Don't remember his first name but the other boat driver was known as 'The Mighty' Quinn, a skivvi waver and boat driver. We ran the first 2 boats up to and to Dong Ha at the end of that year. RMKBRJ still had the dredge in the river and we lived in the camp until they rebuilt it for us.
During the next 2 years I served in ops on the Hue river, did several tours back to the Cua Viet river, was the last 8 boat out of town at the fall of Hue and was still running the river in Dong Ha during Tet of 68.
I was in the same jeep with Frosty Cain and Ken Brown on the way back from Hue when they were killed by a sniper, one shot 2 dead. Would appreciate hearing from any of 'us' that served during that time.
