Gunner on Tango boats at Seafloat and SOD. Would not trade my experiences over there for anything. I volunteered, so can't complain anyway. Very proud I served, with no regrets, but wonder if other guys have had as much run around with VA as I have. Am receiving 20% disability, but after talking with several other guys in different parts of the country, with same medical problems, realize there is a disparity in amount received, depending on what part of the country you live in. Would welcome any comments concerning this.

Was on watch when we started taking on water and watched as most of the after deck sank under water in the storm we were going through. If you are looking for someone I have had good success by using www.ussearch.com for location and then going to www.switchboard.com for a phone number. Some times you have to use first initial or just their last name in the city and state. It may pop a relative to help you find them. If they have a unlisted phone number then you have to find a relative. I hope this makes sense, if not please contact me and I will try to help.

From the few storys that I have been able to read since I logged on to this site, their seems to be a different story for each person. Some are looking for friends, others looking for shipmates, or jest people they knew. What hurts me to depth of my soul, is the one's that will never be able to log on, not able to answer a son, or daughters request for anyone who knew their father, or the wife who is still waiting, and hoping that he will come home. I am looking for any of my crew mates that were offloaded from the Epping Forest at DaNang in "65". I had a short contact with Harold Hollenbeck, Boise, ID. Unfortunately at that time I was occupied with staying alive, and I have lost any info. I had on how to contact him or anyone else. I have done some looking on the web for anyone from that time frame. It seems that nothing started in Vietnam until 1966. Now I know their were American troops their before 1966. SO how about some of you "older" vets drop a line or two, so the rest of us older guys can say HI. THANK YOU for this site.

Hi, this is John's granddaughter speaking for him. I was wondering if there is anyone out there that was on his ships during WWII. My grandfather is dying and one of his last minute request was to find out if he could find any old friends or info about his ships and shipmates. He started out as a first class motor machinist and then became first class machinist. If there is anyone who would like to contact him, please email me as soon as possible. Thank you:) Sincerely Katie

My crew recovered the PBR crewmen's remains, which were buried at sea, Read River. We fought the fire for about 27 hours before we got it under control and out. I worked in the supply warehouse as an SK3 and would like to communicate with others that was on the base, before, during or after 1966-1967. I often look at the memorial book on COSTAL DIVISION 15 and wonder about those I served with. Carl Clapp, O'Gorman, O'Gara, Conlin and many others. To James A Shafran, your e-mail address is incorrect. Please, anyone from Qui Nhon, contact me. Gene

ISDS was the swimmer zapper unit attached to the YRBM 21 for about 5 months. we were a top secret unit. So we all kept a very low profile. the night the 21 was hit with recoiles rockets we fired at the site of the firing before the helos scrapped the area with mini guns. I remember being hit with hot casings from the helos. that was one scary night.

Worked ambushes along the Song Saigon river w/ PBR's and Ski boats. sat on the shore for support fire while PBR stopped sampans that were low in the water. We had one GI fell asleep and rolled off the bow deck of a PBR. He drowned before they could fish him out. I wasn't on the boat but my buddy told me about it.

Dear Sir, I just wanted to say Bless you and the many other men who served during that time of history. I am a Navy brat, my beloved father served during WW2, Korea and Viet Nam, he retired in 1969. But I can remeber him taking us to the airport to welcome some of his men home. My husband served in Denang ( Army ) and my brother in-law was at hamburger hill. Stay safe and healthy. Everytime I take my boat out on the Mississippi River, I think of my tour aboard the YRBM-16 and what a crazy time that was. In one of my most recent recollections, I remembered back on one of my mike-boat watches, all three of us aboard the boat fell asleep at the same time. The officer of the deck had to fire several shots to wake us up before we hit the YRBM-16. As I cruise the Mississippi River, I remember the sampans and debri floating in the water, the smell of nokmon fermenting, and the constant sound of grenades. To this date, I have no desire to travel abroad, the good old USA is where I want to stay.
