Comments: It sure nice to see a sight dedicated to the Brown Water Navy and the support ships and bardges. I was on the YRBM-17 in Dong Tam from Mar 67 to Jan 68. I worked as a shipfitter and we maintained atc's and monitors. If there are any former crew members of the 17 go ahead and e-mail me, I'd like to hear from you, particularly the one's that were there when I was. Don Gale are you out there! I already e-mailed and talked to a couple of the crew members of the YRBM-16 since I was on It for a short time in Japan. Great site!

Comments: Great site. Very familiar stuff. I was an Army fixed-wing pilot at Can Tho and knew the entire Mekong Delta very well. On Armed Forces Day, 1968 my roommate and I took a ride, for fun, on a PBR. (It sounded like a good idea at the time.) Boat was to pick us up off a floating dock at Can Tho, but the throttle jammed and it charged right up on top the float - chased us up the ladder. Despite that start, it was one of the most memorable days of my life. We went about thirty miles down the Bassac on a MEDCAP. Stopped at several villages. Took lots of pictures. Finally I wandered off alone, down a treeline taking pictures. A little girl tugged at my sleeve, pointed at some hootches about thirty yards away and said: "VC." So, I didn't take any more pictures. In fact I went back and stood by the twin fifties for a while.

Comments: I came here from Linda's site "Mom's Vietnam Vet Message Board and Buddy Search", from her VN Vet's Links. I am really disappointed that you didn't include the Airboats of A-404 of the IV Corps Mike Force!!:>) On a more serious note, I have pictures of the Vinh Te Canal about the same time, it seems the water was alittle higher in my picture of the Minesweeper, and the mountain in the picture was, as I remember, on the left as you were going toward Tinh Bien; so the mountain I am sure was Nui Giai. I worked with the PBR's during the dry season; they would take us (IV Corps Mike Force) up the canal to set up ambushs. I normally had about 30 Chinese or Cambodian troops with me, with me as the only American. Also; I know, I know, picky, picky, picky:>), it was Chau Doc!!! You will find some pictures on my pages of the Airboats, but I have at least a hundred I need to get scanned. Comments: Believe it or not I punched in Sea Float and up your page popped. Great pictures of my old stomping grounds. My Dad was an Air Farce FAC flying Birdogs at Rach Gia in 67-68 callsign "Bart" The 3rd time I was shot down was just a couple of miles southeast of there. I'll ask dad if he's familiar with the airplane propeller over door in one of your pictures. I refueled, rearmed and got snacks on a boat like yours when we were working in Cambodia 5/70. In the early fall of 70 while flying an OH6A Loach I landed at a BW Navy bunch of boats rafted on the river/border north of Ha Tein. I picked up a Ltjg and we scouted for guys in what looked like 16 foot fiberglass Tri hulls. They had MGs mounted in the bows. We didn't find anything but had fun shooting the place up. The Lt had been wounded in a leg during a VC attack the night before. I later dropped him off at the SF camp at B43. Comments: Kent, what a great site. I liked all your pictures. I was in country from 2/69 to 2/70 aboard Assault Support Patrol Boats attached to River Squadrons 11 and 15. Throughout your website you refer to these boats as minesweepers. While minesweeping gear was on the boats, that was a relatively minor function. If you want to take the time to update your web references for all of those pictures you may want to refer to them as Alpha boats, much as the ATC's were referred to as Tango boats. That's probably nitpicking so take it or leave it as a suggestion. You really do have a great site and you deserve a lot of credit for putting in the time on it. If any of my boat crews (A-111-3 and A-152-21) read this please email me. Thanks again for a terrific site. Don

I have tried to remember names but after years of suffering from PTSD and being a drunk its no use. I have just now started getting help and pray other vets serch for help, its hard but worth it. After Roy Castleberry another ET that I also went to 'A'school with got killed, the Navy pulled all ETs of the boats. I got sent to COMNAVFORV headquaters in Saigon. Worked out of the ET/RM shop. Spent a lot of time TAD to bases and ships in the Delta and Nhe Be working on radars. I'd like to hear from George Crouch, Jimmy Harmon, or anyone else that I might have served with.

Comments: Hi Kent! I was surprised to see the 20 on a Web page. It felt great! If anyone remembers me, I was a really tall, skinny redhead from California. I was an EM3 aboard the YRBM-20 from May,'69 - '70. The captain at that time was Lt. Clark, and engineering officer was CWO Johnson. My job was to repair anything electrical on the PBR's, mostly alternators, starters, and batteries. I also was an MPO (Motion Picture Operator). We showed a lot of spaghetti westerns. They seemed to be the craze at that time. If the film broke or burned, everyone would "Boo!!!" and throw objects at me. Does anyone else remember that? I was there the day the Cobra came in to land when the rotor flew off. The pilot was quick to put it in the river, and not aboard our ship. I remember the Cobra sinking with the captain and spec 4 aboard. The spec 4 climbed out but the captain couldn't open his door, as it was laying against the water. They were talking, or should I say screaming, to each other, and the spec 4 pulled a K-bar out and repeatedly beat the glass in the same spot until the helicoptor sank. The spec 4 went down with the captain, and a few seconds later, air bubbles rushed to the surface. The captain and the spec4 emerged alive. Everyone on board was screaming and yelling with joy. What a day that was to remember!!! I would like to hear from anyone who served aboard the 20, and especially EM3 Miller, Gonzales, Corey, O'Connor, EM2 Ford, EM1 Dewey, cooks Whitehouse and Kmet, Steward "Del" (Del Rosa Rio), and EN3 Gove. I remember the day that you guys put on my crow. I can still feel the pain! I'll be checking back to see if anyone has logged on that I know. Maybe we should all get together for a great reunion?

Comments: Very nice site. I was at the other end, in 1970. We worked out of DaNang, on YFU's, LCM 8's and if we had to, LCM6's. I spent a lot of time on the DMZ, hauling supplies and personel up river to Dong Ha. You had things floating at you in the water, the Cua Viet river was lined with CORN fields. Never saw a rice paddie the whole time I was there. You can get sick to your stomach watching corn stocks. Can't find too much about the north, and the river boats, but we weren't PBR's, just supply boats. My pictures were taken from me by the MP's at the gate of the Airfield at DaNang when I was leaving country. I also had a landyard with eight pins and one spoon. Those were from a rocket attack in Hue. I drop the concussion grenade, my craftmaster scooped it up and we had a hell of an air burst. Those M.P.'s must have some real tales to tell their kids, and have the pictures to prove it... Glad to see that the Navy got dirty, instead of leaving it all up to the Marines to fight the war...
